When Katy Perry recently launched her new perfume, Purr, her nails probably got just as much attention! Not one to shy away from a statement mani (hello: über-neon yellow nails at one performance, images of her husband, Russell Brand, painted on her talons at another event) her latest incarnation seems almost demure by comparison. First worn at the Victoria’s Secret show where she performed, she sported pale grey nails with what looked like a glittery, multi-coloured top coat. I thought the look was so cute, that I decided to recreate it. By the way, Katy was given a ‘Dashing Diva’ brand gel manicure for this look and the full article can be found here.
My version also gives a sly reference to Katy in another way; I used Deborah Lippmann’s polish in…you guessed it….’Waking Up In Vegas’ (I know, pretty cheesy, but it really was the best colour for this particular look….I swear!) topped with Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear nail color in ‘Disco Ball’, and finished off with a layer of Sèche Vite top coat.

Looking at the bottle, I would have sworn that Waking Up In Vegas was more of a mushroom, oyster-ish greige, but once applied, it morphed to a light concrete grey…pretty edgy & cool all on its own. The finish surprised me by being more satin than glossy, something I didn’t expect, but was still wearable just the same. I then applied 2 coats of Disco Ball, but I actually should have stuck to just one as I liked the more subtle look better. Perhaps a top coat with larger glitter particles would have completed the effect more successfully….will have to hunt one down and try it again, I guess!
