KORRES – Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Foundation

KORRES Antiageing Foundation opener

Today is Greece’s Independence Day and in honour of my heritage as well as my passion for all things beauty, I’m celebrating appropriately – with none other than Greek skincare brand KORRES and their new ‘Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Foundation’. Created with the same award-winning ingredients found in their Quercetin & Oak Antiageing line of products, this foundation not only aims to look good on, but improve your skin’s quality with continued use – definitely something to celebrate as well!

Historical Note: When the Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1453, most of Greece came under Ottoman rule, although pockets of resistance continued to pop up over the years. It wasn’t until nearly 400 years later in 1821, that a Greek Revolution led by Theodoros Kolokotronis began the movement that enabled Greece to finally overthrow this oppression and gain their independence, which is celebrated on March 25th by all Greeks, no matter where they may be.

KORRES Antiageing Foundation

Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Foundation #20 Golden Beige/Beige Doré (CAD $51.00 27 ml/0.91 fl.oz) – Available in 8 shades, from quite fair to rather deep, this is a liquid foundation in a pump dispenser format. According to the company:

What it is:
A long-wearing, antiaging foundation powered by natural alternatives to retinol.

What it is formulated to do:
Uncover a youthful radiance with this comfortable, crease-proof foundation that promises a soft-focus finish. Quercetin and oak is the first natural, clinically proven alternative to retinol. An ultra-powerful antioxidant derived from the oak tree, it works fast to help minimize the visible signs of aging. The medium-coverage, crease-proof formula helps blur fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful complexion, while a blend of moisturizing ingredients keep skin smooth and hydrated.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

Research results:
– 93% saw an immediate reduction in the appearance of fine lines
– 75% reported visibly firmer skin after 8 weeks

My findings: The shade I was sent to try, #20 Golden Beige/Beige Doré, is meant for medium skin with golden-peach undertones and will probably be a perfect match for me once I have a touch of a tan, but right now it fell a bit too yellow for my winter-pasty skin. I was also a little skeptical about the delivery format, as I’ve found that items that come with pump dispensers usually end up releasing too much product, which is then gone to waste. Not so with this version, and I’m happy to note that the trigger mechanism is very user-friendly.

As this foundation is geared towards skin with antiageing concerns, it is quite emollient and richly hydrating – something to keep in mind and possibly avoid if you have oily skin, although drier skin types will revel in this nourishing feel. Using Shisheido’s Perfect Foundation Brush, I found that there’s a nice glide and slip in the application and it spreads easily without any noticeable settling into fine lines, leaving my skin looking almost dewy – not glowy, but certainly not matte either – more of a satin finish. Coverage is medium but flexible as well, as I was able to easily thin out the application in some areas where I desired less product but also build up on a few problematic spots. Lasting power was also excellent, going easily 12 hours with no noticeable fading or creasing, although my combination skin meant that I did need to blot my T-zone somewhat.

Note: after applying this foundation over the KORRES Quercetin & Oak Age-Reversing Primer (review coming soon), I had much better oil control.

Surprisingly, even though this shade is a couple of degrees too dark for me at the moment, I was amazed at how well it blended into my skin nonetheless, as can be seen in my last swatch photo.

Final thoughts: KORRES is a brand that has already made an impact in the organic & botanical skincare market, and has been steadily gaining ground in the colour cosmetics arena. With the addition of Quercetin & Oak, this foundation marks another milestone, as it serves to improve the look of your skin on several levels. My skin felt like it could breathe throughout the wearing of this product, and while I can’t attest to its skin-improving qualities YET, I loved how the rest of my makeup stayed put all day as well, a quality that is definitely a must in my opinion.

The KORRES Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Foundation range is available exclusively through Sephora. Feel free to follow KORRES via facebook/twitter or Instagram for all their latest updates.
