KORRES – Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturiser (trial & review)

The rose plant has sides to it that most people aren’t even aware of, but Greek natural skincare giant Korres, knows. Long revered for its beauty and heady aroma, the wild rose is also a natural source of Vitamin C, a necessary step in your daily routine, both for the protection it can provide, and its ability to help repair the look of fine lines and skin discolouration – I am so definitely on board for that! The following is an excerpt from the company:

Once you unscrew the cap to the opaque-coloured & sturdy glass jar, you are presented with a plastic inner seal (fig. 1) that protects the integrity of the cream – something I really appreciate with my skincare. Before even dipping a finger into this product, you are introduced to its signature rose aroma, delicate but not overpowering, which lasts until the cream is fully absorbed into the skin, offering up only the barest whisper of scent after that. The texture of the cream (fig. 2) feels almost whipped, but not as airy – with a nice slip to it, allowing for effortless spreadability. I found that a little goes a long way, and you barely need more than a nickel-sized amount to cover the entire face and neck.

My results:

In order to accurately report on this product, I tested it out for the duration of the jar, which lasted me well over 2 months. There is an initial “whitening” look imparted to the skin upon first application, but that quickly becomes transparent as the cream is absorbed. I found that my skin felt completely nourished and exceptionally moisturized throughout the entire day; however, as this product is targeted more for those with drier skin, it wound up being a bit too hydrating for me, and felt rather like it stayed on the surface for its duration. On the plus side, I did notice a marked brighter tone to my face and even though this cream felt too emollient for me, I had no adverse reaction to it nor did it contribute to any breakouts.

According to Greek myth, the rose used to be only white in colour, until beautiful Aphrodite, while rushing to save her lover Adonis, was pricked by the rose’s thorns and thereby stained its white petals with her ruby blood – hence the present botanical name of ‘Rosa‘ which comes from the Greek word ‘rodon‘, and means ‘red’.

Final thoughts: I am not only a huge fan of Korres products, but use them on a regular basis, and have done so since I first discovered the line on a family trip to Greece in 2004. The fact that the ingredients are organically and locally sourced, not to mention uncut and undiluted with synthetics and fillers, only adds to my admiration of the brand. Most of their skincare products even have “best before” dates on them – you just know they’re fresh as a result, and not something manufactured in bulk at some plant. The ‘Wild Rose’ cream was the first product in Korees’ skincare line, and has since achieved a well-deserved, almost cult following. Despite the fact that this was not for me personally, I highly recommend you look into it if your skin runs a little dry and you want something that will not only show results, but is good for you as well.

*EDIT: I was sent this cream for review some time ago, and while the company still makes a ‘Wild Rose 24-Hour’ cream, it has since been reformulated and this particular version may no longer be available.
