KORRES Wild Rose Compact Powder #04 Medium Beige – Brightening/Flawless Finish

With their reputation firmly established as a brand which uses naturally derived and organic ingredients in their skin and hair care lines, KORRES applies  that philosophy to their makeup range as well, infusing all their products with many benefits – all while helping you look your best.

Having avoided using face powders in the past, I was surprised to find that when used as a finishing step, the ‘Wild Rose Compact Powder’ lent my skin a gently diffused appearance, as opposed to the usual chalky look I’ve long associated with this type of product.  According to the company:

“… this oil-free, sheer formula imparts a natural swash of color and a smooth, velvety finish”

What it is formulated without:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Petro-chemicals
  • Phthalates
  • GMOs
  • Triclosan

The ‘Wild Rose Compact Powder‘ (CAD $36.50 10 g/0.35 oz) comes housed in a square dark bronze dual-compartment case, with the powder on the top tier and a sponge located underneath. Formulated with wild rose extract, long revered for its skin brightening and line-softening abilities, it is also a natural source of vitamin C for an extra anti-oxidant boost. Available in 4 shades (although the KORRES website shows 5 – might not be for North America though), the powder is so finely milled, that unless you’re at the extreme end of the colour spectrum (too pale or too dark), you should have no problem finding a match for your skin tone. My colour match is #04 Medium Beige (medium skin with yellow-olive undertones). I was also pleased to note hardly any powdery kickback when I swirled my brush along the pan – a good sign of quality density.

Using a large powder brush, I applied this compact powder on my foundation-primed skin and as the last step of my makeup routine; the result was a fairly sheer dusting of colour that was enough to give the appearance of softened skin, finishing neither matte nor satiny, but with a natural looking glow – like really healthy looking skin. Staying power was quite impressive as well, lasting easily over 10 hours without settling into pores or lines, and did a good job of also absorbing excess shine – I didn’t feel the need to blot at all.

I did not use the included sponge, but I assume that if you were to apply this powder over bare skin, the sponge would give you more opaque coverage than a brush would, although some blending would then be required to soften any harsh edges.

Final thoughts: There are a couple of advantages to wearing a powder such as this; for one thing, it helps to set your foundation/makeup and imparts an almost airbrushed finish, helping to detract from imperfections on the skin such as blemishes, dark spots and fine lines. Or if you choose to apply it over bare skin, it helps to give the appearance of a more even tone, in a very natural way – all while taking advantage of its many beneficial ingredients. Either way, I love how this made my skin look and have found a new ally in my hunt for that perfect, flawless finish.
