L’Occitane en Provence – Aromachologie Relaxing Hand Balm (swatches & review)

My hands get their fair share of use — as a beauty blogger, I mean! (dirty-minded people!) With the amount of nail polish I swatch in one week alone, it goes without saying that I really need to not only pamper my hands in between, but replenish lost moisture. Enter L’Occitane en Provence’s ‘Hand Balm’ from their Aromachologie range of products.  Released just last month, this light but emollient balm, infused with healing essential oils of lavender, tea tree and geranium as well as enriched with luxurious shea butter, promises to deliver that much need moisture back into parched skin, without leaving behind any greasy residue. And the scent? Pure heaven!

Packaged in a 50 ml (1.7 fl.oz) tin, I appreciate the fact that there’s an inner foil seal preserving this balm from any accidental spillage (en route from store to home, of course) as well as ensuring it hasn’t been tampered with in any way.  The container itself is wide enough so that you won’t have any problems scooping any of the product out, but not so large that it’s mistaken for a full body item.

Once I opened the seal, I was actually surprised to see the balm’s texture, half expecting it to be much more dense.  An off-white hue with a slightly thin consistency, almost jelly-like and feeling rather cool to the touch, a little definitely goes a long way.

It spreads easily and has excellent ‘slip’ when applied to the skin, ensuring no harsh tugging sensation as you rub it in.  There is an soft baby-powder like scent, although the infusion of the essential oils gives it a fresh herbal twist.

In the photo above, you get an idea of the balm’s texture and see it’s delicate translucency.

The photo above is a sample of skin (top of my hand) taken before any balm was applied. Enlarged for the sake of the experiment, you can see how my skin is in serious need of some moisture and how deep some of the grooves appear.

Once the balm was applied, fully rubbed in and allowed to settle in for a few minutes, that same patch of skin seems plumper while the grooves appear somewhat smoothed out.

Final thoughts: An hour later, and the tops of my hands still have a buttery softness to them, while I’m pleased to note no greasy aftermath whatsoever.  Long known for their healing properties, the essential oils in this balm may also have a relaxing effect on the senses, as well as helping to create a perfect balance between dry and oily skin.

Personally, I absolutely love how this balm has a lightly lingering scent and makes my hands feel, completely eliminating any tight feeling in my skin yet not so rich that it takes forever to absorb. Retailing for CAD $20.00,this Relaxing Hand Balm is available at all L’Occitane boutiques across Canada.  Please feel free to visit the company’s website for other locations and more information.
