L’Occitane en Provence ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ Shimmering Oil & Eau de Toilette – Holiday 2012

For all you amazing people that have begun your Christmas shopping for loved ones (actually, I’ve already bought 1 gift – yay!), here are a couple of lovelies you may wish to consider; new for the holidays and limited edition, L’Occitane en Provence launches 2 spell-binding collections, ‘Feuilles Magiques’ (not shown) and ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ (Marvellous Flowers) … almost too beautiful to give away, no?

Apart from the ‘Shimmering Oil’ and ‘Eau de Toilette’ I am showing here, the ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ range of products also includes:

  • Intense EDT Roll-on (CAD $28.00/10 ml)
  • Body Cream (CAD $48.00/250 ml)
  • Hand Cream (CAD $12.00/30 ml)
  • Shower Gel (CAD $22.00/250 ml)
  • Perfumed Soap (CAD $6.00/50 g)

Made with rose, peony and raspberry extracts, this scent is meant to evoke the promise of spring that lies just beneath winter’s mantle – refreshing, light, and somewhat ethereal. According to the company:

“This floral, fruity fragrance evokes a bouquet of roses and peonies with an almost-magical dash of sparkling red berries. Held in its precious faceted bottle, it reflects the shine and sparkle of Christmas”

Head notes: The sparkling freshness of of pink grapefruit combined with red berries

Heart notes: A luminous bouquet of roses and peonies

Base notes: A touch of white wood and musk

Fleurs Merveilleuses Shimmering  Oil – (CAD $36.00 75 ml/2.5 fl. oz) This is a “dry” body oil, which simply means that the oil component is absorbed into the skin, leaving no residue or greasiness behind. The faceted glass bottle has a nice heft and weight – I absolutely hate those cheap-feeling acrylic bottles – and the facets themselves help to give you a secure grip. I appreciate the inner foil soil under the cap; you know it hasn’t been tampered with and it prevents any accidental spills while in transit.

I found that a little goes a long way with this oil; due to its slippery nature, it literally glides along the skin and while it’s jam-packed with golden shimmer (which is not gritty feeling at all, by the way) it doesn’t stand out excessively when applied. The scent is quite prevalent at first, but gently fades within the first 20 minutes or so – a plus if you wanted to layer the matching Eau de Toilette on top but did not want an overpowering fragrance. The shimmer does have the propensity to rub off quite easily, although I found the moisturizing benefit of the oil not left my skin feeling hydrated & smooth, but still left a faint sheen behind.

An ideal product to highlight key points on your body: chest, collarbone, shoulders, shins — or wherever you want people’s eyes to linger!

Fleurs Merveilleuses Eau de Toilette – (CAD $48.00 75 ml/2.5 fl.oz) Once more, the faceted bottle is a thing of total beauty, with the soft pink colour of the liquid lending this Eau de Toilette, a dainty feminine touch. The nozzle sprays an nice even mist, and is small enough that you can direct it easily.

This scent seemed to linger surprisingly long – lasting easily over 7 hours. Of course, your body chemistry will dictate which component of this fragrance will stand out more – the fruitiness or the florals, but they both combine beautifully at the finish to create something dynamic and unique.

Final thoughts: I’ve never really used a shimmering body oil before, so this was a new and quite pleasant experience for me; I love how this ‘Shimmering Oil’ is also scented, which meant I was able to skip adding fragrance on top. Personally and mainly because my nose is hyper-sensitive to scents (I may or many not have “Bloodhound” in my genetic makeup, according to my family), not to mention that my personal fragrance choices run towards the warmer tones & orientals (think vanilla, amber, oud, tobacco) this is not a scent for me, although that being said, I was actually surprised to find that I was able to wear it without any adverse reaction.

If you love florals that are not overly sugary, cloying, or too contrived, then this is a fabulous option; the addition of the red berries keeps it not only fresh and original, but somehow exciting, if a fragrance can be described that way.

Available at all L’Occitane en Provence boutiques during the holidays – and limited edition.
