It feels like I’ve been on the hunt for a truly effective lip balm far longer than I probably should; I mean, how difficult can it be to find a product that moisturizes your lips? Very, very difficult, as it turns out. Then there’s the plethora of options available; little pots are cute, but sticking one’s fingers in a product is not always the most hygienic way to go. The squeeze tube variety usually winds up getting goopy in & around the cap. Spending top dollar for a high end brand just goes against my grain ($55.00 for a La Mer version – seriously?). Then there’s the medicated and/or scented and/or flavoured varieties … see what I mean? Do lip balms really need to be THAT complicated?

#70 Pink Shock – A hot pink hue with slight violet undertones. Ever have a pink Popsicle? THAT’s what this shade not only looks like, but smells like as well, upon initial application. Visible & buildable colour, although not opaque.

#75 Fierce N Tangy – A transparent hue with a barely-there lemony tint, bearing a lemon curd scent: tangy and buttery sweet at the same time. Along with Minty Sheer, it’s one of the sheerest of the 6 in terms of colour.

#80 Berry Bomb – a violet hue with a mauve/rose cast, totally reminiscent of yet another Popsicle flavour: grape/purple. NOTE: I was able to layer this shade to make it even more intense, and while you definitely see colour, it stays on the sheer side and never opaque.

#85 Oh! Orange! – coral leaning with a tangerine scent. Not as pigmented as the pinks/purple, yet not as transparent as the yellows – this falls somewhere in between, lending a buildable warm peachy hue to the lips.

#90 Minty Sheer – transparent with hints of a lime tint, bearing a light spearmint scent. Of the 6, this shade worried me the most, but it actually looks quite natural on and very complimentary to anyone with yellow/green undertones in their skin.

#95 Strike A Rose – soft warm rose with a peachy undertone – hints of a cotton-candy scent. I was surprised by how visible the pigmentation is on this … AND how flattering. It’s feminine, yet not too fi-fi looking, and will suit all skin tones.

Here’s the thing; I approached these balms with hesitation, thinking they were just another gimmicky product, but damn! They work – they actually really do work! Not sticky or waxy-feeling, these literally glide across your lips and even long after the balm has worn off, you’re still left with soft lips. The brand claims up to 8-hours of hydration, and while I can’t say for sure that that figure is accurate (I forgot to wait for a full 8-hours before reapplying, so I kind of messed up my testing) I can say that after a full day of wearing, my lips felt incredibly soft by evening, and even some minor peeling issues I had pre-Baby Lips®, seemed to disappear afterwards. Bottom line: everyone should have at least 1 tube of these somewhere within reach. Might be too early to make the claim, but definitely in the running towards attaining Holy Grail status.
