Winter in Montréal is a strange animal; either filled with major precipitation (take your pick: snow, sleet, rain, freezing rain, etc.), or so bitterly cold that it leaches every ounce of moisture from your skin, nails and hair. Even indoor heating is in on the conspiracy, adding some static for your enjoyment. Enter Moroccanoil® Weightless Hydrating Mask to the rescue of moisture-parched locks!
The latest addition to the Moroccanoil® range of hair products, the ‘Weightless Hydrating Mask’ claims to be targeted towards those with fine, dry hair or anyone who’s every shied from thicker formulas for fear of weighing their hair down … like myself. In my previous reviews of Moroccanoil® hair products (here, here and here), I described my hair (long, plenty of it, colour-processed, and prone to some oiliness) and how maintaining my mane’s optimum health is very important to me (and my vanity!). The company states that:
“…the rich and creamy formula deeply hydrates, moisturizes, and improves texture and manageability, while restoring elasticity and shine.”
Seeing as how I liked the way my hair behaved after using this product twice a week (as recommended), I wondered if I could also use it in lieu of my regular conditioner, and was surprised that it worked equally well. After shampooing, I took a healthy scoop (and here you need to gauge it depending on your hair’s length and thickness), applied it all over starting from the ends and working my way all the way up to the roots, massaged it in thoroughly then left it on while I completed my shower … rinsing it out only at the very end. In my usual routine, I always apply a leave-in conditioner as well, but wanting to test this mask even further, I opted out of the last step. Unfortunately, my hair still needed that last bit of extra moisture, although it felt easier to manage than had I not applied anything at all.
I need to digress a second here and rave about the scent … I can’t put my finger on it, but I sure wish they’d come up with a spray version! LOVE!!

Final thoughts: I am a huge devotee of moisture, whether it’s for my body, nails, face and/or hair. Added to this, is the fact that my hair is colour-processed (pale champagne blonde) and combined with the sometimes brutal weather we experience here, keeping my hair moisturized not only feels good, but shows in the shine it gives off. This Weightless Hydrating Mask is exactly that: weightless. Since my hair isn’t fine at all, I felt comfortable in using this product in exchange for my regular conditioner, and was quite pleased with the results. I received the moisture that I looked for, and it did not make me feel like an oil slick had formed on my hair. The final bonus: that trademark Moroccanoil® scent … puts me in my happy place, every single time! Available at fine salons and spas, the ‘Weightless Hydrating Mask’ comes in a hefty 8.5 oz/250 ml container which ensures you won’t quickly run out (even if you use it as often as I do!) and retails for CAD $39.00 … a truly worthy addition to a line of products I am already totally in love with!
