Dior has just launched the Summer Dune 2021 Collection, and I’m 100% here for it. I mean, c’mon; few brands do details as breathtakingly beautiful as Dior, am I right? The collection draws inspiration from the play of light on sand dunes (oh, how I’ve missed the beach …), and I have a few key pieces to show you. Spoiler alert: they’re all ahhhh-mazing.

I definitely intend to recreate this entire look
In my opinion, both eyeshadow palettes perfectly embody the spirit of the collection; with their undulating waves and ombré hues, it was almost painful to dip a brush onto their surfaces, but I dove in with gusto … after all, makeup is meant to be worn & enjoyed, no? All shades display good pigmentation — surprisingly so, as I expected at least Mirage to be much softer, and while there are no mattes, their shimmer finish is ultra refined and serves to provide a gorgeous radiance. Another interesting point is that the ombré effect of each shade tweaks the colour slightly with each brush swipe; not enough of a difference to affect colour consistency, but I think it’s a pretty cool touch just the same. All offer up excellent blendability + staying power (when worn over primer). One thing I did notice upon swatching, is that the bottom 2 shades of both palettes appear very similar with only a slight variance in tone, but that might also be a result of the fact that I’m wearing a self-tanner that probably adds to that illusion.
699 Mirage 5 Couleurs Couture, limited edition (CAN $76.00) | The lighter and just slightly cooler toned of the two palettes, the shades include:
- soft peach nude (top left)
- nude (top right)
- champagne (middle)
- mauve (bottom right)
- rose nude (bottom left)
759 Dune 5 Couleurs Couture, limited edition (CAN $76.00) | Definitely the deeper of the two, the shades include:
- shimmery apricot (top left)
- oyster nude (top right)
- ecru (middle)
- browned mauve (bottom right)
- rose nude (bottom left)
091 Black Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara (CAN $37.00) | I had forgotten how much I like this mascara so it’s nice to get reacquainted. This is a waterproof version of the cult-fave Iconic Overcurl, and while I’m not about to dive into water to test that claim out, I can tell you that it.stays.put. As in, you’ll need an oil based dual-phased remover to take it off. The brush is densely bristled and curved to hug the shape of the lash line, making it easy to quickly apply and can reach even the finest of lash hairs. When it comes to mascara, I look for a deep black hue (✔️), volume (✔️), and no smudging/flaking/creasing (✔️) — holding a curl isn’t an issue for me, as my lashes do have a good natural curl, and while I do want my mascara easily removed at the end of the day, it’s nice to know that a budge-proof option like this exists.
016 Shimmer Nude Lip Maximizer (CAN $44.00) | I’ve yet to try a Lip Maximizer that I didn’t love. Housed in a transparent tube which makes it easy to know at a glance what shade you’re reaching for as well as monitoring usage, this is a neutral beige hue filled with ultra fine shimmer that has absolutely no grit, and comes with a flocked applicator which picks up enough product per swipe to make it effortless to apply. Considering that this is a gloss, I don’t find it “sticky” per se, and it really does feel buttery smooth on the lips. Said to provide a slight plumping effect, I’ve found that it helps to keep my lips thoroughly moisturized and hydrated even long after the colour has gone. Seriously, not only is this a goof-proof shade that will suit every skin tone across the board, but does an amazing job of helping lips feel as good as they look.
Dior knows how to knock it out of the park where summer collections are concerned and I couldn’t be happier with these selections. That said, there are several other pieces that I’m very interested to get my hands on (nail polishes, highlighters, blushes. So basically everything) and of course, bear in mind that the collection is limited edition … my guess is that everything is going to go pretty fast. Not that I’d be surprised one bit.
