OPI ‘DS Indulgence’ and ‘DS Luxurious’ – Fall 2012 (swatches & review)

The following is my first post while I’m travelling … hence the long wait! (but hopefully worth it) ♥

As red is gearing up to be the “couleur de jour” this coming fall, OPI is getting ready to launch 2 unique new shades honouring this hue in the form of their Designer Series line: ‘DS Indulgence’ and ‘DS Luxurious’ – both diamond dust infused and almost vibrating with a light all their own. While many other brands are showing us their darker side as the weather cools, OPI decided to go the other way and give us something so brilliant, one can’t help simply staring! All swatches are with base and top coats.

‘DS Indulgence’ described by the brand as “a radiant violet-red with a shimmering golden finish”, is actually more of a deep wine base colour, absolutely bursting with densely packed golden micro-gliter that brilliantly reflects the light which touches its surface. The first coat showed a definitive burgundy cast which was made completely opaque by the 2nd coat – all in a perfectly flowing formula. Excellent pigmentation and with a multi-chrome effect given off by the completed look, this applies in a completely self-levelling way, leaving no brush strokes behind and finishing off with an amazing high-gloss shine.

Interestingly enough it’s almost as if the base colour is composed of millions of glimmering pink/burgundy particles with the gold tones seemingly suspended at the nails’ surface level – a truly spectacular effect, and one that brings to mind the look of smouldering embers … in a word, spectacular! There is some slight residual staining upon removal, which is easily eliminated by a second swipe of nail polish remover. Coats applied: 2

‘DS Luxurious’ is described by OPI as a “captivating coral-red with a golden glisten”, but it is so much more than that; a vivid pink-tinged tangerine hue filled with ultra-fine & rather flattened gold glitter, it flows effortlessly across the nails in its stellar formula, which somehow manages to lay down exactly where you apply it with absolutely zero migration. Intensely pigmented, this can almost be a 1-coater if applied thickly enough, and the self-levelling formula leaves no brush strokes behind – only a brilliant glassy finish.

With its fiery orange duo chrome-like effect and that “lit-from-within” look I absolutely love, it gives the appearance of a modern & sophisticated citrus burst, while the finish remains absolutely smooth to the touch. Bonus: exceptionally easy removal, no fussing with the glitter. Coats applied: 2

Final thoughts: These are only my second set of lacquers from OPI’s Designer Series, and I cannot help but be totally impressed with the application, colour combinations and that mind-blowing shine factor. While the “diamond-dust” in the formula may not be an overt addition, it really does serve to add an extra dimension of sparkle to the overall effect, but not in a way that can ever be thought of as tacky. I really like how these are both a fresh new way of wearing “red”, although ‘DS Luxurious’ certainly leans more orange than that – still quite a wearable shade, however. Easy to apply & even easier to remove, these may be all the “jewelry” you’ll be wanting for your hands! Available as of September and retailing for CAD $14.95, you won’t want to miss out on these limited edition beauties.
