Wrapping up (with Spidey-webbing, of course) my review on OPI’s Spiderman Collection (see part 1 reviewed here), I bring you the last three shades, along with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter making another cameo appearance! Attempting to translate a movie about a comic book superhero into a set of nail varnishes would seem like an impossible feat, and yet that’s exactly what was accomplished here, with shades that exceeded that challenge. All swatches are with base and top coats.
The Spiderman of my youth never looked THIS buff! Love the hi-tech new outfit! (source)
Without further ado, here are the final three shades of this fabulous limited edition collection, along with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter!
‘Into the Night‘ is that mysterious shade of sapphire blue that tints the sky right before night fully descends; a (surprisingly) sheer-ish formula, 2 coats gave good coverage although I needed three coats to reach the opacity you see here, but it is SO worth it! The best description for this shade is that of a pearlized metallic, with some glimmering violet undertones that add such incredible depth, while a slight silvery sheen can be seen in certain lights. Fully self-levelling and ultra-high glossy (another surprise!), this lacquer is so luminous that it almost glows – beautifully eerie! Bonus: absolutely NO staining upon removal.

‘Into the Night’ with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter – love its understated appeal (looks like the earth from space, no?!)

‘Your Web or Mine?‘ is a true carnation pink hue in a somewhat frosty, yet pearlized formula. I was ready to not like this colour at all, as the bottle hue made it look a touch too “old-fashioned” for my taste, but here again I was surprised by how pretty I found its dainty tone (2 coats applied here). While easy to apply, this shade was a touch less glossy than the rest, benefitting from a layer of top coat. One warning is, that you do need to pay attention in your application, as this shade can be prone to some visible brush strokes.

‘Your Web or Mine?’ with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter – as was mentioned to me, this combo looks very much like watermelon chunks!

‘Just Spotted the Lizard‘ is a slightly sheer, beetle-wing green/gold duo chrome hue, in a high gleam metallic formula. While the first coat had a tendency to apply slightly streaky, the second coat immediately took care of that AND gave rather full coverage, although I applied 3 coats here to completely eradicate any lingering visible brush strokes. The finish had a very high shine factor and I was pleased by the quick dry time as well. I’d actually need a full post just trying to describe all the nuances of colour here that flash with your hands’ every movement – STUNNING!

Even from the earliest promotional photos, I was fairly certain that ‘Just Spotted the Lizard’ was a match to CHANEL’s now cult-status ‘Peridot’ (previously reviewed here), and I was right! Any differences between the two are negligible at best, and for anyone who missed out on ‘Peridot’, or perhaps did not feel comfortable splurging that way, ‘Just Spotted the Lizard’ will certainly fill that need … and more! How the two compared:
- index & pinkie fingers: ‘Peridot’ – similar formula and greenish reflection, but slightly less brassy tones making it a hair softer-looking, the thinner brush here works more in favour of this type of shade (less visible brush strokes)
- middle & ring fingers: ‘Just Spotted the Lizard’ – appears smoother at the finish, any inner “particles” much finer in size

‘Just Spotted the Lizard’ and ‘Peridot’ with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter – I totally love the antique “brocade” fabric look of this combination!

Final thoughts: Just when I believed that brands couldn’t possibly come up with any more exciting new collections, OPI pulled yet another rabbit out of their hat! This collection has some inspired lacquers, and while I was hoping for some kind of new futuristic red hue (when I think “Spiderman”, the colours that immediately spring to mind are red + blue), the gorgeous midnight shade ‘Into the Night’ more than made up for that loss. I’m not sure why a pink such as ‘Your Web or Mine?’ was included, but it is a shade that is perfect for the spring/summer season. ‘Just Spotted the Lizard’ is breathtaking, even if it has been seen before, and I cannot get enough of its mesmerizing colours – plus, any of these shades paired with ‘Shatter the Scales’ Green Shatter all become elevated to new heights, something I’ve never seen a shatter polish do before. Available starting early May, this will be a limited edition collection … get ready to channel your inner super-hero diva! Visit OPI on facebook or follow via twitter for all their latest news!
Back in my day, saturday mornings meant one thing: cartoons! Singing along at the top of our lungs, my brother & I bounced all over the furniture as the opening theme to Spiderman began – I still remember all the words by heart! By the way, I never could figure out where the webbing was attached to as Spidey swung through the city …
