May I say how much I love any shade of mauve nail polish? ‘Catherine’, like practically every other mauve/dusky purple nail polish I have ever seen or tried on, seems to have the ability to suit every skin tone. I love the muted aubergine base of this colour and I find that the addition of the very fine multi-tonal shimmer takes it to a whole other level of deep purple. This polish applied very smoothly as well, and the flow was excellent. In the closeups, the camera has clearly picked up the pink and aqua micro shimmer (although the above picture has somewhat skewed the true colour of this polish) and even to the naked eye, these flecks are apparent.
With the more ‘natural’ lighting, you can clearly see the muted mauve look of this shade, although in more artificial lighting, the shimmer combines to lend it an almost bronzy cast. I must say that although all pictures are shown with base coat, 2 coats of polish and Seche Vite top coat, even without the final step of a top coat this polish has exceptional shine.
I find that the greyed out but still vibrant look of this shade also seems to have a pearly depth to it which makes it unique among my other deep/dusky purple polishes. Even with the micro shimmer, it applied flawlessly with no visible brush strokes. Dark polishes are still riding high in popularity and I find that the deep tone of this colour can add an elegant dimension to your manicure (or pedicure too for that matter!).
