Essie ‘French Affair’ for Spring 2011

Here we are……..finally more official promotional photos of this much anticipated collection from Essie!  There are six shades in total and with the exception of ‘Coat Azure’, they are softer, more muted, delicate and refined compared to the last few collections Essie has released. ‘French Affair’ is a creamy pale Damask Rose, ‘Nice is Nice’ looks like a blue-toned pale lavender, ‘Coat Azure’, the only dark/bright shade in the collection, is a fleur-de-lys blue with inner micro-shimmer, ‘Sand Tropez’ (love that name!) seems a peach tinted light taupe, ‘Barefoot & Topless’ (you know that I absolutely have to get that one….for the name alone!) is a delicate flesh-toned nude and ‘Kisses and Bises’ (sure hope the spelling of this one is accurate) looks to me like a white with duochrome swirls of pink, green, gold & perhaps blue.

I understand that some of this collection has started trickling into Wal-Mart stores in the US (where apparently the line is now carried) but for the rest of us, we still have to wait until the official January release.  I will be posting swatches soon….so stay tuned for that!  All in all, the shades seem to whisper colour instead of shouting it, which is a welcome breath of fresh air…with the exception of Coat Azure to satisfy any bright cravings we might still have!  What do you think of the collection so far?

Essie Spring 2011 teaser!

Essie’s Spring 2011 collection, as I mentioned in a previous post, will borrow from Parisian style, echoing the City of Lights’ joie de vivre and allure. The range seems to almost be a throwback to a more romantic era, with only one vibrant shade as a keynote piece, surrounded by a compliment of ethereal pastel hues.  After the vibrancy and jewel-toned colours of Essie’s past 2 collections (Fall & Winter respectively), I feel ready for something softer, but that still carries an edgy impact, and instinct tells me that I will be absolutely loving this collection!

As always, I will be sure to update you as soon as more specific information becomes available, but for now….enjoy this official promo shot!

PS: from this photo, this collection looks like it will be available in the original bottle style…will let you know if that changes.

Essie Spring 2011 – First Look!

Are you ready for your first look at Essie’s Spring 2011 collection? I must admit that trying to find out any advance information about this has been a tightly guarded secret indeed! The closest I came, was in an article I wrote quoting Essie herself on the inspiration behind this upcoming collection, and some veiled hints as to what the shades would be, but no more than that.

Today, I finally have some photos to show you! These were uploaded via twitter by Eva Chen Bannister, Beauty Director (and blogger!) for Teen Vogue, from a breakfast event she recently attended, where she had assisted Essie Weingarten in unveiling the new Spring 2011 Collection.

So far, I don’t have the names to go with the polishes (except for the blue, which is called Côte d’Azur) and any description is based on my own opinion and from what I can see in the photos.  By the way, don’t you just love how the yogurt shades on the breakfast plate, mimic the delicate pastel nail polish shades? Genius!

On to the colours……of course, this is a 6 piece set, and apart from the metallic blue shade, they are all rather ethereal pastel hues. We have the requisite pink with what looks like hints of lilac tones, a dusty almost greyed-out lavender, and a delicate muted nude. The pearly white looks to have a gold inspired duochrome swirl running through it (a CHANEL Pearl Drop dupe, perhaps?), there’s a lovely nude/grey which looks like a cross between Body Language (Essie Spring 2008) & Chinchilly (Essie Fall 2009) and finally, the one that stands unique in this collection (at least, for me), an iridescent oceanic blue.

That’s all I have for now, but I will definitely keep you updated as more information becomes available.  So, what are your thoughts on this collection? Which shades are you planning on?
