Bands have been steadily releasing their holiday offerings, and I have a selection from NARS to show you today. Of course, François Nars always manages to add his own unique stamp on things, and this year’s grouping is no different. Drawing inspiration from 70s iconic punk fashion (hence the safety pins & studs), the shades of the Holiday 2018 Collection are all surprisingly wearable and relevant … with a bit of irreverence peeking through via the names, naturally.
Riot Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Set (CAN $62.00) | Following the success of last year’s The Kiss pencil set and its stunning golden bag from the Man Ray Collection, the 2018 version comes with a red metallic makeup bag adorned with raised black safety pins scattered throughout, along with the NARS logo. The four full-sized Velvet Matte Lip Pencils inside are all limited edition shades, and feature a formula that glides super smoothly along the lips, as well as excellent staying power. The texture has some emollience, therefore touch-ups will may be needed after eating/drinking, and all fade to a nice stain once the majority of colour has gone. Note that there are 2 more sets (not shown): Ransom (nude tones) & Manic (berry tones).
Available at: Hudson’s Bay, Shopper’s Drug Mart/Pharmaprix, Murale & online
- Wasted – pale magenta
- Riot – deep crimson
- Rebel – bordeaux
- Clash – dusty rose
Little Fetishes Dolce Vita/Capri (CAN $32.00) | Housed in a collectible little “studded” tin which is actually large enough to hold small beauty items (i.e.: sharpeners) or even double as a mini jewelry box, there are 4 Little Fetishes in the collection (not shown: Fort de France Highlighter/Laguna Bronzer, Mini Orgasm Lipstick + Blush, Mini Audacious Lipsticks in Rita + Mona). The duo shown is made up of the Capri Highlighter, a personal fave (previously reviewed here when originally launched) — a gorgeous powder that has a good mix of both cool & warm tones and looks simply amazing applied, along with the Dolce Vita Blush, a shade I surprisingly didn’t already own, but am totally loving the beautiful & universally appealing dusty rose hue it imparts, not to mention how easily it applies. Oh, and how perfect is this as a stocking stuffer for the beauty lover on your list?
Available exclusively at Sephora (in store & online)
- Dolce Vita Blush (mini) – matte dusty rose with slight gold sheen
- Capri Highlighter (mini) – crushed pink pearl
Powermatte Lip Luster (CAN $34.00/each) | The latest additions to the NARS liquid lip range (all limited edition), these shades of which there are 6 available in total, have a ‘brushed-metal’ finish. The flocked applicator delivers full coverage that’s opaque from the very first stroke, and once applied the lip feel is nothing short of incredibly lightweight. The texture is meant to be flexible, so as to move with your lips without cracking/peeling, and while they come to a matte finish, the resulting look is still somewhat multi-dimensional due to the metallic particles. That said, I still wouldn’t skip properly priming lips beforehand with a slick of balm.
Available at: Hudson’s Bay and Nordstrom
- Shatter – shimmering cocoa
- Pierce – shimmering burgundy
- Blackheart – shimmering black/brown
As stated in my opening paragraph, this is but a selection of the entire collection — which in actuality is quite large, although several pieces are exclusive to specific retailers so I suggest visiting the NARS website to see the entirety in order to help you narrow things down. From the items I received, I’m really loving the Riot Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Set — as much for the bag (which will definitely be repurposed and used as a clutch), as well as the pencils with their stellar formula and ease of use. Oh, I also have my eye on a few more lovelies, so I’m off to do some shopping! By the way, fair warning: everything is limited … you know the drill.
