Givenchy has just launched the Lunar New Year 2021 Collection, and while it may be small, it sure packs major impact. For starters, there’s the bold red shade of the packaging: utterly elegant, absolutely sophisticated, and 100% GIVE ME THAT. Then there’s the lipstick; it’s not a lie to say that a part of me wanted nothing more than to keep it pristine forever … so I took a ton of pictures and dove right in!

888 Golden Red Le Rouge Marble Edition Lipstick (CAN $49.00) | For this collection, the brand’s iconic Le Rouge lipstick comes dressed in a vivid red patent leather case. The ‘888’ shade number is meant to symbolize prosperity and good luck in celebration of the Lunar New Year, and the lipstick bullet has been given a stunning new look via golden marbleized threads. Not just decorative, the gold imparts a gorgeous shimmer that merges perfectly with the warm-leaning red hue, without ever leaving a gritty feel behind. The texture is one of my favourites; highly colour-saturated, it applies like velvety cream and comes to a lush shine. Staying power is excellent as well, fading to a rosy stain.

01 Mousseline Pastel Prisme Libre (CAN $72.00) | The cap of the brand’s face powder in this cult-fave quartet of shades, has also been given jazzed up with bold red & gold accents. As this has been previously reviewed (see swatches here), I won’t go into detail, but I will say that this colour correcting powder (by the way, the shades can also be customized by combining them) has a gossamer-fine texture that not only allows it to blends seamlessly into the skin, but also serves to set makeup. Note that this limited edition version only comes in this shade, but there are other colour harmonies available.
TIP: dust a light layer of this powder over makeup to prevent transfer onto a face mask. It actually works!

Two main things I look for in my beauty products: performance and details, both of which are clearly in abundance with this capsule collection. Of the two, I’d say that this lipstick is one you do NOT want to miss out on, and if you’ve yet to try the iconic Prisme Libre face powder, then this red-capped version would make a stunning addition to your vanity. This collection may be Lunar New Year themed, but how bang on perfect is it for Valentine’s Day too? ❤️
