The Fall/Winter 2023 Équinoxe Collection is CHANEL’s latest launch and draws inspiration from Coco Chanel’s favourite season, bringing us lush jewel-like tones that merge the line between shadow and light. As much as I hate to see summer go, I have to confess that these are actually the types of shades that truly call to me …

For me, it’s all about the details: I love little touches such as the leaves gracing the sides of the packaging
Douceur d’Équinoxe Blush Harmony (CAN $90.00/each) | The two standouts of the collection are undoubtedly these complexion palettes. Housed in the brand’s signature black lacquered compacts that come with a full sized mirror on the inner lid and a demi-lune brush, the surface of each comes embossed with the same leaf pattern seen on the outer packaging. Each also includes two shades: a darker base hue with the double C’s done in a complimentary lighter shade — and both are meant to be swirled together for the best effect. Depending on how much you load up your brush, you can get a soft wash of colour along the cheeks all the way up to something more intense, but regardless of your preferences, the finely milled powder applies beautifully without looking like it’s sitting only at surface level. Staying power when applied over primer/foundation, stays true throughout wear without oxidizing.
797 Beige et Corail | Warm peach coral with a soft sheen
798 Beige Rosé et Mauve* | Dusty rosewood with a soft sheen
Le Vernis (CAN $44.00/each) | Housed in the brand’s instantly recognizable rectangular bottles with their removable caps, these shades perfectly capture fall’s colourful glory. The brush is a dream to work with and both have a self-levelling flow that almost applies itself, coming to a natural glossy finish.
Both shades were swatched with 2 layers of polish, no base or top coats
163 Été Indien – A deep coral orange with a jelly-like texture, super glossy finish. There’s a slight translucency seen with 2 coats, but if you load up your brush you still get good opacity just the same.
165 Bois des Îles – A stunning bordeaux shade in a crème finish, amazing opacity even with one coat but 2 provides a richness of colour. Non-staining.
The collection also includes several lip offerings and new powder eyeshadows that I’ll be showing in an upcoming post. In my opinion, the pieces presented here are not only visually stunning, but also happen to deliver a stellar performance — and I have a hunch they’ll be getting quite a bit of my love. Plus, they’re just sooooo pretty … and limited edition, so if anything has grabbed your fancy, I wouldn’t wait.
