Last week the fashion/beauty world was treated to what must surely go down as one of the most breathtakingly beautiful runway collections ever imagined; I’m referring to the CHANEL Cruise 2017/18 Collection, of course (and yes, my #greekpride is definitely showing). Paying homage to Ancient Greece, the theme of the show was ‘The Modernity of Antiquity’ with the Grand Palais (the venue) sporting spectacular columns, friezes and stately olive trees to transport the guests back in time, while the exquisite creations strutting the runway took everyone on a Grecian Odyssey the likes of which has never been seen before. Be still my Greek heart …
Never before have I been as captivated by a runway show literally from every single angle & perspective, as I have with this Cruise 2017/18 Collection — stay tuned for a fashion recap that will highlight some of my favourites (actually, I loved them all but I really had to force myself to narrow it down).
Sam McKnight, CHANEL’s mane man, went for Greek Goddess-inspired hair and kept things relatively simple via partial updos and light face-framing waves — the better to show off the hair adornments that called upon Olympian laurel-leaf crowns via ribbons that were either left plain in the front but decorated at the back of the head, thickly braided, embroidered in a Greek Key pattern, or embellished with gilded flowers. I honestly cannot even begin to pick a favourite look but I will definitely be doing my best to recreate them all.
Naturally, the makeup was also all on point and was comprised of fierce yet absolutely elegantly precise black lined eyes as showstoppers, while the rest of the face exuded a gorgeous healthy glow — a look that’s also totally wearable for us mere mortals, I might add. Nails were painted an understated white that still managed to make an impact without competing with any of the other elements, with the entire look coming together to make even a Delphic Oracle weep with envy.
