I was most drawn to these 3 hues – #07 Moon River, #17 Cool Gold and #37 Jade Shore, but after playing with these little beauties for a week now, I have a feeling I’ll be going back for the rest (EDIT: I picked up #57 Black Stream just 2 days ago).

I love pencils that come in a retractible format for a number of reasons, primary among them the sanitary aspect – contents stay relatively pristine, especially when properly capped, and how protected everything is this way, ensuring less chance of a chunk of eyeshadow breaking off — something you really don’t want happening when you’re paying this kind of premium price. The tip of each eyeshadow is slanted, making it versatile enough to be used as a liner, while the flat broader end is of a decent enough width to deposit sufficient colour quickly across the lids. Once applied, you immediately notice 2 things: a cooling sensation – like someone blowing cold air on your lids – which fades within a couple of minutes, and how incredibly smoothly they apply, literally gliding effortlessly. The waterproof and long-lasting claim is completely deserved; I tested them out by priming only one of my lids, while leaving the other in its natural – and somewhat oily – state, and found that the colours did NOT budge with either one. No creasing, no flaking, no smudging, and no fading. UNBELIEVABLE. Due to their unique “dry slip”, these eyeshadows are even easy to apply over a powder base, adding a new level of shimmer to your lids. #07 Moon River (CAD $) – a mid-range taupe hue with a slight platinum sheen, and filled with a complex shimmer that holds pink & green in its depths. The colour can be built up for more intensity, sheered out for a light touch of iridescence, or even applied over a similar powder shadow for even stronger intensity.

#17 Cool Gold – a vivid yellow gold hue that imparts a rich warmth to its brilliance and which makes a unique statement as a liner, especially on the lower lashline, a highlight for the tear duct or brow bone, or as I prefer wearing it, over other shades & dotted in the center of the lid for a simply STUNNING effect.

#37 Jade Shore – an almost delicate seafoam green hue with multi-tonal shimmer and a silvery sheen seen under some lights. When worn on the inner part of the eye, this shade seems to draw the light to that area, whereas applied across the lid definitely gives the most drama, but in a fresh, new & sophisticated way.

Last word: Maybe it’s because I’m a summer baby, but for me, the collection I eagerly anticipate every year is without a doubt, the CHANEL Summer launch. This year’s release is truly exceptional and seems to not only perfectly capture the season, but does so in an array of products that are unique, wearable & eminently covetable.
