Dior · The Balm/Le Baume

Dior recently launched The Balm/Le Baume aka: one of the cutest releases to date. Billed as a multi-purpose product, this not only adds moisture and a level of protection to skin, but elevates this everyday task to a whole new luxury level. When things come together like that, it gets me every single time.

Le Baume/The Balm (CAN $75.00/50 ml, 1.7 fl oz) | Housed in a round plastic squeeze bottle that comes with a convenient flip-top and bears the brand’s iconic “Oblique” pattern done in soft grey, this is a cream-emulsion product targeted for the hands, lips and even the body. The formula stems from derma-cosmetics and is comprised of 95% natural origin ingredients (the remainder 5% helps with maintaining integrity). At its heart, the formula contains Centella Asiatica Extract, the star plant with its reparative properties, and also includes ceramides to help with rebuilding & maintaining the skin’s barrier, along with squalane, jojoba oil, and shea butter to deliver essential fatty acids such as Omegas 6 & 9 to the skin. Other ingredients include both glycerin and hyaluronic acid, known humectants that help attract water to the deeper layers of the skin and lock that in for continuous hydration. Delicately fragranced, the texture of the cream is quite silky and blends effortlessly into the skin, becoming fully absorbed without leaving any greasy residue behind.

I’m a HUGE proponent of using hand creams, and I’m loving several things about The Balm; for starters, there’s the adorable and super easy-to-use packaging, one that’s reminiscent of CHANEL’s similar egg-shaped La Crème Main, but I really like how the cap here doesn’t need to be removed (no fumbling around, thank you). Then there’s the excellent texture and how that nourished feeling lasts for several hours (may need to be reapplied after washing hands). I’m also a fan of how it helps hydrate nails/cuticles, so that’s a nice perk. On lips, it does a decent job of moisturizing, but I already have a favourite lip balm for the job. Finally, it’s portable and elegant and I guarantee you’ll get interested compliments every time you pull it out to use. As to this product being for “body”, I’m going to go out on a limb and say Dior was probably referring to small areas such as elbows or knees, because to use this balm on larger areas would be a bit ridiculous, given the amount provided … not to mention the cost, unless money is no object — then, knock yourself out.

While this is certainly a luxury splurge, it at least delivers on its promises of providing long-lasting hydration and reparative benefits to the skin. If you’re someone who procrastinates on using a hand cream, then using The Balm might be the way to go because, how can you possibly resist this little cutie?
