Dior · Cool Wave Summer 2018, Lips & Nails

Summertime collections definitely rank as some of my absolute faves, and as far as I’m concerned, Dior has totally knocked it out of the park with the Cool Wave Summer 2018 Collection. In fact, I’ll even go on record as saying that this brand is continuously upping their own game, releasing colours that bear a universal appeal and formulations that rock. So what are you waiting for? Just dive in … see what I did there? #noshame

Dior Addict Lipstick (CAN $44.00/each) | Housed in prismatic acrylic cases, the initials at the centre of these lipsticks are actually a ‘hydra-gel’ core offering up continuous moisturizing properties, while the outer section provides colour and shine. The texture is smooth and buttery upon application, although pigmentation is on the lighter end of things so don’t expect major colour saturation (gives you a good reason to whip one out and reapply, though).

  • 040 White Splash – sheer ice with ultrafine & non-gritty blue-based glitter
  • 411 Nude Chill – soft peach nude

Dior Addict Color Juice Lip Tattoo (CAN $37.00/each) | Launched last year, these are liquid lippies where the colour fuses within seconds upon the lips, leaving behind a watery-like finish & feel. Each tube is colour-coded on the outside so you know exactly which shade you’re reaching for (no fumbling around with opening or scanning names). Once applied, the colour melds feather-light upon the lips and leaves a light stain behind.

  • 341 Litchi – soft coral
  • 551 Watermelon – juicy pink

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in Pool Blue (CAN $42.00) | Inspired by Dior Backstage, this is a lip primer with a slight plumping effect and can be used alone or as a treatment product (both morning and night). This year’s version comes in a translucent icy blue tint for just the slightest hint of colour, and as with all other Lip Maximizers from the brand, it bears a pleasant minty/vanilla fragrance (which dissipates quickly after application). Personally, I am slightly obsessed with this product (actually, I have an addiction to all the Lip Maximizers I own) and love how it thoroughly moisturizes my lips and keeps them flake-free.

Dior Vernis (CAN $34.00/each) | I cannot say enough about Dior’s nail polishes: from the stellar formula to the amazing brush, there is everything to love about them. The selections in this collection are no exception, and as I have a long-time fascination with anything aquatic-leaning — especially for Summertime wear, then it’s a no-brainer that I’ll be sporting Splash quite often.

Swatches below: 2 coats (each), no top coat

  • 404 Splash – vivid turquoise crème hue, smooth self-levelling application, completely opaque by the second coat. Non-staining upon removal
  • 431 Pow – Creamsicle Orange hue with visible golden shimmer, self-levelling application and completely opaque coverage by the second coat

EDIT: The shade Pow shown here is actually not available and was shipped to me in error; the version that is part of this collection is called Wizz (don’t even get me started on the name) and is quite similar, if not a couple of degrees deeper.

I love seeing how each brand interprets the season, and while some eccentricity colour-wise is welcome, I personally prefer a more traditional palette. Dior’s Cool Wave Collection is truly Summer-centric — from the names, to the shades — and old-school me couldn’t be happier. Of course, the performance of the products isn’t hurting the cause either, and while Old Man Winter still seems to have a death-grip on us here, I can at least indulge my love of warm weather with these lovelies. By the way, everything is limited … you’ve been warned.
