With its unmistakable outline and intricate ironwork, the Eiffel Tower — the most iconic symbol of Paris, is the inspiration behind the Dior Skyline Collection for Fall 2016, so perfectly captured and beautifully rendered upon the surface of the two eyeshadow palettes. According to Peter Philips, Creative & Image Director for Dior Makeup:
“In the heart of Paris, there’s this icon that defies the sky, a sturdy structure that is both light and transparent. It dominates the capital and can be spotted from afar. The Skyline Collection echoes this architectural masterpiece, playing with luminosity and transparency to beckon attention with its subtle elegance”
I love a good backstory to beauty, and I’d say that Peter Philips got this bang on.

506 Parisian Sky, limited edition (CAN $73.00) | Cooler-leaning in tone, all the shades have non-chunky shimmer of varying degrees, and can also be made to work on those with warmer complexions by layering and/or wearing them slightly dampened for more impact. Personally, I love the subtle gradations of colour in this palette as it makes each hue that much easier to wear. From top left (going clockwise):
- milky taupe
- champagne
- white-based silver
- mink brown
- palest aqua

806 Capital of Light, limited edition (CAN $73.00) | More impactful colour-wise than Parisian Sky, the shade selection here is a good mix of both cool and warm tones. The five shades have varying intensities of shimmer, and all can be worn either dry or dampened to yield extra depth & dimension. TIP: this is an amazing palette for those with green and/or hazel eyes. From top left (going clockwise):
- gunmetal
- pearly white
- soft pink
- aubergine
- oyster with pink undertone

The last few collections from Dior have been producing some pretty unique palettes and the amount of detail that goes into their creation is second to none. If the delicate filigree design seen here isn’t enough to draw you in, then the colours surely will; I was initially unsure about the softer payoff of Parisian Sky but after having played with it for some weeks now, I’ve come to appreciate it more and more (let’s face it; aqua is never an easy colour to pull off under normal circumstances. This palette makes it a breeze). Capital of Light is drop-dead gorgeous, in particular that gunmetal shade with all its complexities and that stunning deep eggplant (PS: they look totally killer when paired together). A little on the steep side price-wise, but that’s offset by the originality of the shade groupings as well as the overall performance of each palette. Also, just look at them … Le sigh….
