Happy Hallowe’en to all beauty fiends!
As promised, I did go back and pick up Timeless Gold because its subtle glamour was too difficult to resist! For this holiday season, I’m so pleased that Dior produced a more traditional “holiday-themed” collection than what we’ve seen from other high end brands thus far, by adding tons of glinting shimmer…..just so festive, don’t you agree? I also picked up the limited edition and highly coveted eye shadow quint ‘Five Golds’ #001 which I will give a full review on tomorrow….I have so far resisted trying the shades on as I want it pristine for my pictures, but it’s a struggle to keep my hands off its totally utter gorgeousness!!

This is a polish which I’m sure will appeal to a wide spectrum of tastes, as it has something for everyone; it has subtle shimmer and shine, a toned down glitz and an edgy enough colour to keep it from being blah. It can just as easily transition from day to night wear and depending on which light you look at it, it can seem to be either a pale gold to a silvery pewter, and sometimes even look like a glimmery taupe. I find that I’m actually really liking this new brush so much better than either the old Dior nail polish brush or even that of other brands, and the consistency, flow and application were all once again excellent. Considering the metallic, almost foil finish of this shade, I’m pleasantly surprised that it left no brush strokes behind and the dry down time even without a top coat, was on the quick side. For this swatch, I used OPI’s Start to Finish as a base and top coat plus two coats of Timeless Gold.
Dior Timeless Gold vs. CHANEL Kaleidoscope
Upon viewing Timeless Gold at the Dior counter, I felt that it was suspiciously close to CHANEL’s Kaleidoscope (limited edition of a few collections past) and it really is close but more of a ‘fraternal twin’ than an exact dupe, with Kaleidoscope tending to have a very pale greenish tinge to it and a slightly less gold hue. Even swatched, they looked very, very close but you can still see the differences (I’m sorry…I didn’t take any pictures of the comparison but promise to post it soon). For those who missed out on Kaleidoscope, here is an opportunity to pick up an almost identical shade and seeing as how Timeless Gold is limited as well, I wouldn’t take to long to think it over!
I do love this colour and find that even though it is a foil and has some glitzy glamour to it, it will still be flattering to a range of skin tones and is just so forgiving in application; mistakes just seem to disappear for some reason, unlike a darker shade where you have to be so precise. It has enough bling factor for a holiday polish without being over the top and will make a spectacular choice for a pedi come the warmer months….think how awesome it will look against a tan then! Dior polishes retail for US $21/CAD $24 for o.33 fl.oz/10 ml.
