As soon as the holidays have passed, awards season hits the ground running and the first contender out of the gate is one of my favourites: The Golden Globes. With a looser vibe than the more formal Academy Awards, stars of the small and big screen freely mingle both during and in between the aired segments, and with the alcohol flowing, you just never know what might happen (and usually does).
For me, however, it’s all about the red carpet glamour and I’m literally glued to my tv screen, mentally devouring & dissecting each celeb’s look as they arrive. This year’s crop seemed to be especially lovely and apart from a few misses fashion-wise (bear in mind that this is totally subjective, as we all have differing tastes), the hair, nails and makeup were all totally on point.
If I were to sum up the looks in one word, that would be: unstructured. But then again, that’s somewhat deceiving, as we all know that even a ‘no makeup’ look usually requires an armada of products to be successfully achieved. Still, the beauty tone was one that looked healthy & natural – not overdone – and used a more subdued palette. Eyes shone without excessive sparkle and glitz, cheeks had a gorgeous flush of colour (thankfully, contouring was pretty low-key), and lips were kept in the pinky/nude range, with a few pops of colour cropping up here to liven things up. One beauty feature that everyone had in common, was undoubtedly beautifully groomed brows. Hair in general, was fairly undone and mermaid-y, with delicate braiding and beauty waves ruling the roost and even though there were a few updos thrown into the mix, these too were done in an unfussy manner. Nails were the usual nude (and yes, I get it that no one wants their mani to upstage the gown, but still …), but I also noticed a few celebrities taking chances with some deeper hues (although nail art seemed to be relatively absent).
Of all the gorgeous looks, the one that really stood out for me, was Olivia Wilde’s plum eye makeup, which not only stepped out of the box colour-wise, but made her green eyes stand out and grab the lion’s share of the spotlight (and that I want to recreate ASAP).
I hope you enjoy the following photo recap (for obvious reasons, I couldn’t include every single person attending) – let me know your thoughts on the looks and who your fave was!
