MAC’s summer collections are my kryptonite (to be honest, I have to say that summer collections from all brands make me a little woozy; probably the fact that I’m a summer baby might have something to do with it) with the pièce de résistance from the Vibe Tribe Collection, none other than this Dunes At Dusk Gleamtones Powder. If the packaging doesn’t get you first, then one look at the 4-toned chevron print surely will … and that’s even before trying it out (cue angels singing).

Dunes At Dusk Gleamtones Powder, limited edition (CAN $38.50) | Housed in a flip-tip compact with the collection’s geometric print on the lid (although not stated by the brand, this looks totally Mojave-inspired to me), which opens to reveal four complimentary hues:
- champagne pearl
- soft apricot with a pink shift
- icy pink
- mauve-y rose
Described as a ‘bronzer/highlight’ type of product, I’m totally on board with the highlighter part and unless your skin is naturally alabaster white, don’t expect much bronzing from this. Each shade is large enough that it can be picked up individually, with the two lightest (champagne and pink) obviously needing a smaller brush, but the real magic happens when the colours are swirled together to form a unique new hue. Another advantage to having four shades to work with, is that you can basically customize this highlighter colour-wise; depending on which of the four you lean more towards, will determine whether the undertone is warmer or cooler. The texture is incredibly fine-milled and the shimmer blends seamlessly upon the skin without emphasizing pores. Applied over foundation, I get excellent wear time, with minimal fading seen around the 9 hour mark, although a slight sheen remains even after that — it all really depends on how heavily you apply to begin with. BONUS: any (or all) of the shades can also do double-duty as eyeshadows, or worn as highlight at key points such as inner eye corner, brow bone, or cupid’s bow of the lips).
One thing of interest that I noticed, was that by grabbing slightly more of pink shade to apply, the look upon the skin reminds me very much of the pink shift I get from my Pat McGrath Nude 003 Skin Fetish (reviewed here), so for those of you who missed out on that, you might want to give this Dunes At Dusk Gleamtones Powder a look instead.

Admittedly, I am a sucker for pretty packaging but at the end of the day, if the product fails to perform to my standards, then no amount of exterior design can save it. Thankfully, that’s so NOT the case with this Dunes At Dusk Gleamtones Powder. As stunning to look at as it is to wear, I am deliriously happy with this little lovely and even with 10 billion highlighters in my arsenal, it still manages to stand out by virtue of its coloration and the way it looks upon the skin. Final word: a must have, even if you’re not a highlighting fiend.
