I’m not going to lie: this latest collaboration between MAC & Star Trek has me giddy with excitement. Giddy, I tell you. Partly, it’s due to the actual products but as a lifelong Trekker, the main reason is, well … STAR TREK. Whereas yesterday’s post featured new face powders, today’s focus will be on the eye lovelies of this collection: four new pressed pigment shades, 3 new eye liners plus a pair of out-of-this-world lashes. Beam me into this beauty wonderland, Scotty.

What do you get when you take MAC’s loose pigment powders and compress them into pans? Pressed Pigment, that’s what. These are versatile little eyeshadow pots in that they can be worn dry as a sheer wash of sparkling colour but which can also be layered up for more depth and intensity, or applied damp for ultra-brilliant glossy colour. Long-lasting (especially when worn over primer), they offer all the shine of the loose powder version but in a much more user-friendly format. One warning: this is a slightly more delicate product than conventional eyeshadow, so I recommend going easy with how you dip your brush into them.

To Boldy Go Pressed Pigment (CAN $27.50) | Dusky rose with pink reflects and a salmon undertone for depth. Buttery smooth texture, regardless of application method and a shade that looks simply beautiful as an allover eye colour.

Bird of Prey Pressed Pigment (CAN $27.50) | Sage green with a complex silvery sheen and a greyed undertone to keep it grounded. I absolutely love this along the upper lash line, although it also makes for an interesting outer crease shade as well.

The Naked Time Pressed Pigment (CAN $27.50) | For the record, this shade was the hardest to accurately photograph as its reflection seemed to freak out my camera. Much smoother and pigmented in actual application than seen in my swatches below, this is an oyster/champagne hue with a strong white-silver brilliance. Looks incredible under the brow bone and inner eye corner and will probably also work beautifully as a highlighter too.

Midnight Pressed Pigment (CAN $27.50) | Absolutely STUNNING. An inky blue base with a visible violet shift and a galaxy of silver shimmer. Applied as a light layer, you get sparkle but not as much pigmentation – which is fine for those who want to keep things more ‘neutral’, but start building it up and it’s full speed ahead. So, so gorgeous.

MAC X Star Trek Collection | Superslick Liquid Eye Liner
Superslick Liquid Eye Liner (CAN $25.50/each) | Even though I haven’t mastered that perfect cat-eye flick yet, liquid liners are what I usually reach for and having a felt tip applicator makes the job that much easier. These are all long-lasting and highly colour saturated, with a relatively quick dry time (which, by the way, stays put without flaking or smudging until removed). As they do set fairly quickly, I recommend working on one eye at a time.
- On The Hunt – Deep ebony black with that dries glossy (and seems to have a gasoline-like colour shift seen in certain lighting)
- Nocturnal – Brilliant white-silver with ultra fine silver shimmer
- Pure Show – Vivid yellow gold with smooth golden fine shimmer

Wink of an Eye lashes (CAN $21.50) | On the original show, Lt. Uhura (portrayed by Nichelle Nichols) always wore the most amazing lashes – and that’s the first thing I thought of when I looked at this pair. Lush angled lashes with longer black hairs interspersed with deep blue shorter hairs for depth and visual interest the band is soft and flexible, making them quite comfortable to wear (although it may need to be shortened/adjusted to fit your eye length). Almost a complete eye makeup look on their own, in fact.

This is my first time experimenting with MAC’s Pressed Pigment formula, and I really wasn’t expecting them to be this easy to work with. The four shown here are all quite wearable – despite the brilliance – and can even go from day to night simply by dialling up the intensity. Wearing just a stripe of Nocturnal and/or Pure Show topped with layers of mascara makes eyes look fully ‘done’ but in a fun new way, great for spicing up your makeup look as well. And as to these lashes? Let’s just say that they are definitely Uhura-worthy.
