Space … the final frontier … these are the voyages of the starship Enterprise … ∗cue music∗
I am, and always have been a Trekker (to paraphrase Spock from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t obsessed with this franchise, having grown up watching the original series over & over again and always wishing I could be a crew member. I also vividly recall waiting in line with a bunch of friends to see the premiere of Star Trek the Motion Picture and all of us singing/humming the opening theme at the top of our lungs, not to mention crying my eyes out when Spock ‘died’, or the absolute horror I felt upon seeing the Enterprise crash and burn. Yes, I am a bonafide fan and you can probably imagine my delirium when I first learned that MAC would be producing a Star Trek Collection in collaboration with the original franchise’s 50th Anniversary. Let the log show that I couldn’t think of a better brand to bring this venture to life.

Today’s post will focus on the limited edition Trip The Light Fantastic Face Powder trio, and if you get nothing else from this collection, you really shouldn’t skip checking these out. Let’s start with the packaging: simple, black, & effectively rendered with the Starfleet insignia both on the front and in silver foil on the inside. Housed in round flip-top cases with the Starfleet logo again on the lid, these face powders alternate between highlighter/blush/bronzer with a sprinkling of unicorn tears thrown in for that magical little something extra. Their fine-milled texture and excellent pigmentation ensures a gorgeous application to provide a radiance you can dial up or down, depending on personal taste. With planetary-inspired surface patterns on each shade that couldn’t be more appropriate for this collection, swirled together the hues merge to create a whole new dimension of colour. Melding beautifully into the skin as they warm up and fuse with your natural oils, each shade only gets better with the wearing and lasts until removed. Bring on the alien [beauty] invasion.

Luna Luster (CAN $39.50) | The palest of the three, this is a pale pearly pink hue with random ribbons in violet for added depth of tone. Definitely more suitable to be used as a highlighter, a light dusting of this shade using a fan brush then swept across cheeks and forehead will give that perfect ‘otherworldly’ radiance. Can also be worn along collarbones/shins or anywhere else you’d like to add a touch of glow.

Highly Illogical (CAN $39.50) | The deepest of the three shades, this is a soft caramel tan colour with deeper ribbons of sienna and gold veining throughout. Swirled together, you get an illuminating bronzer hue that looks amazing lightly brushed on the high points of the face, or applied over a more traditional bronzer for added depth and luminosity.

Strange New Worlds (CAN $39.50) | Displaying a slightly higher level of pigmentation than the rest, this is a warm-leaning apricot shade with a shimmery pink undertone (reminds me of a less saturated version of NARS’ Orgasm) and can be made to work as a blush (especially for those with fair-light complexions) or my favourite way, along the apples of the cheeks & bridge of the nose and over bronzer, to give that ‘fresh-from-the-beach’ ruddy glow.

I am absolutely in love with all three of these Trip The Light Fantastic Face Powders (not too crazy about the super-long name, however) and I couldn’t be more thrilled with A) how different they are from each other and B) how beautifully they all perform. My love affair with blush, bronzers, & highlighters is not going away anytime soon (unlike these powders that will most likely disappear at warp speed) and for those times I’m looking to add a little extra zing to my makeup, these are hands down all I’ve been reaching for since their arrival into my beauty orbit … I warned you at the top of the post that I’m a Trekker, right? #sorrynotsorry #thespacereferenceswillcontinue
Stay tuned for the next episode …
