With the Spring collections arriving fast & furiously at counters, there’s still time to nab some Holiday lovelies, such as this trio of lacquers from the NARS x Steven Klein Fantascene Collection that were recently released for the holidays. For a collaboration between two such artistically provocative & eccentric minds as that of François Nars and celebrated photographer Steven Klein, these nail polishes are surprisingly…wearable. Who would have thought?

Hard To Get, Limited Edition (CAN $25.00) | NARS certainly know how to make a unique & complicated shimmer, as can be clearly seen with this shade, which should have been better titled ‘Hard to Describe’. Never one to shy from the truly original, he’s managed to find a way to combine opposites grey + bronze to create: THIS. Warm-leaning (thanks to the bronze/gold particles), the application is also superb, laying down in a self-levelling way and coming to a glossy shine at the finish. I’m also having a total moment with the natural moiré effect of this polish – so much love!

Black Fire, Limited Edition (CAN $25.00) | Yet another name whose provenance escapes me (but who really cares what the name means when the colour looks so amazing?), this is a dusty medium-dark blue shade that’s filled with fine glass-flecked blue & silver particles – irregularly shaped for a unique twist on the theme. Another stellar formula showing excellent density & flow with a self-levelling application, the finish leans more towards the semi-gloss side and benefits from a layer of top coat to really make it stand out (and thus smooth to the touch). Bonus: non-staining upon removal.

Night Creature, Limited Edition (CAN $25.00) | A blue-based magenta/violet shade with strong metallic elements and that gorgeous moiré effect, bearing extremely fine-ground silvery shimmer. The colour saturation here is absolutely insane (you can basically get away with one coat for full opacity) and while the formula leans a bit on the thick side, it’s still very easy to work with. Self-levelling upon application, the finish is quite shiny but not glossy.

I’ll leave you here and hope the swatch photos have done their work (which is beauty speak for: these are all gorgeous). As mentioned in my opening paragraph, the Spring collections have already started hitting stores but you can still score Holiday collection items such as these NARS x Steven Klein Fantascene limited edition shades – just not for that much longer. Fair warning.
The NARS x Steven Klein Holiday Collection is available through The Bay, Sephora, Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew locations across Canada. Find more information via www.narscosmetics.com
