New! NARS Climax Extreme Collection 2020

Well known as enjoying shaking up the beauty industry, NARS has just released the Climax Extreme Collection which builds on the success of the brand’s Climax Mascara which launched in 2018 (previously reviewed here). After having played around with these pieces for a while now, I can definitely say that they’re both very well deserving of their rather provocative names …wink, wink.

In keeping with our new normal, the brand very thoughtfully sent along this stunning black face mask. Made of 100% Mulberry Silk aka: the finest silk available, it’s naturally hypoallergenic & nonabsorbent, totally gentle on the skin, features an adjustable nose wire and ear loops, absolutely lightweight and breathable for ultimate comfort, and it’s machine washable as well. The fact that it also looks so cool, is a definite plus. Personally, I think NARS needs to add these to their roster because I’d certainly want a backup.

Extreme Effects Eyeshadow Palette, limited edition (CAN $74.00) | Housed in a black ridged case with a full sized mirror on the inner lid, this palette holds 12 stunning shades in a range of matte & shimmery finishes. The pigmentation level is literally off-the-chart amazing, and all are strongly colour saturated while displaying a buttery smooth texture. Easy to blend out as well, there is hardly any fall down seen upon application, and lasting power is bang on, when worn over primer.

I’ve written often enough about my love of reddish eyeshadow hues, and I have to say that this one palette seems to encompass all the colours I personally enjoy wearing. The mattes are easy to work with and don’t come off as flat-looking, while the shimmers have an almost “latex-like” quality to them (so, so unique). There’s also a nice mix of deep shades to help ground a look (or add definition), and even a couple of colour pops to spice things up. Oh, and how perfectly autumnal is this entire grouping?

  • Endowed – shimmering duo-chrome neutral
  • Roleplay – matte beige
  • Take Control – russet
  • Private Eye – shimmering deep wine
  • Pulsing – shimmering light copper
  • Full Potential – matte mauve pink
  • Blow – matte bright pink peach
  • Tantric – shimmering soft rose
  • All The Way – hot pink coral with gold shimmer
  • Code Red – shimmering burnt brown red
  • Staredown – shimmering vivid lavender
  • Uncensored Black – shimmering deep black

Climax Extreme Mascara (CAN $32.00) | The original Climax mascara is one of my faves (I’ve actually gone through several tubes) and I was a bit skeptical on how the brand could improve on that; well, they did. Housed in an architecturally-shaped ridged tube (gorg, am I right?), it comes with an XXXL sized bristled brush — but not one that’s overly chunky or clumsy to use. The formula is just wet enough that it applies easily without being goopy, and the colour is a true intense black. Application is easy as well, and somehow this brush manages to grab even lashes you didn’t know were there. The best part is the unbelievable volume and length it provides, while also being super easy to remove at the end of the day (I always use a bi-phase remover for the job, as it’s the gentlest and most effective on lashes). Even though holding a curl is not at the top of my priorities list (my lashes have a good natural curl on their own), I noticed that the curl held throughout wear. Bonus points scored for it not leaving any smears, flakes, or those dreaded crescents under the eyes. By the way, the swatch below is just one coat. ONE.

This one’s easy: I am blown away by this entire package. The eyeshadow palette is a definite keeper (and grab it while you can since it’s limited), the mascara has absolutely impressed me (and my standards are HIGH), and the mask is not only the best I’ve tried so far, but makes me look like the chicest ninja. Beauty above the mask, indeed.
