It seems like just last week I was talking about the YSL Savage Escape Summer Collection. Oh wait, it was just last week … yup, that’s the world of beauty for you; moving at warp speed. Sigh.

Just launched from YSL, the Fall 2016 Scandal Collection is lush & colourful, drawing inspiration from the free-loving vibe of the 70’s while giving a nod to the deeper jewel tones of the season and with accompanying rich finishes to round it all out. Making the 70s über-cool is what this brand does best – and as someone who actually lived through that decade, trust me when I say that makeup never looked as good as this back in the day.

Scandal Couture Palette (CAN $68.00) | Housed in a hefty and luxurious compact that has a pine-green faux-leather cover bearing the Cassandre logo inset in red (seriously though, no one does original compacts quite like YSL), there are five contrasting yet complimentary eyeshadow shades on the inside. The texture is smooth and very easy to blend, and all can be worn either dry or amped up by being applied with a dampened brush. The breakdown (clockwise from the top left):

YSL | Rouge Pure Couture The Mats

When YSL first launched the Rouge Pure Couture The Mats lipsticks (but what a mouthful to say), I was unprepared for how amazing they would actually feel; with a finish that seems more like plush velvet than the usual sahara-like sensation the word matte conjures up, these are instead not only long lasting and super comfortable throughout their wearing, but without showing any feathering or bleeding to mess things up.

213 Orange Seventies (CAN $42.00) | An orange based red that definitely leans warm but should also suit those with cool complexions, being an almost softer way to sport a crimson lip. Very unique tonally and so much more modern looking than straight-up orange. LOVE.

212 Alternative Plum (CAN $42.00) | A deep berry hue with an undertone that seems to swing both cool & warm — and thus making it very 70s, indeed. I adore a good vampy lip and this shade gives amazing saturation from the very first swipe.

76 Fur Green (CAN $31.00) | A blue-based pine green hue with a teal undertone in a hybrid crème-jelly formula that has absolutely everything positive going for it: self-levelling, easy flow & density, good coverage from the first layer and coming to a high-gloss finish. The brush has a nicely bevelled shape, making application super easy and it splays perfectly along the nail. BONUS: non-staining upon removal.

Something about this colour made me want to see it matte; worn this way, the finish looks & feels almost suede-like and I absolutely love it. Taking things up another notch, I then glossed up just the tips using a top coat and voilà: 3 looks with 1 polish.

Yes, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m a Summer baby and can’t even stomach the thought of the colder weather that’s coming, BUT I also can’t deny that Fall makeup seems to bring with it a richer and more diverse range of colours. Case in point: the YSL Scandal Collection with its lush tapestry of hues. Sweetening the deal is the textures and finishes – a good thing really, as it makes it easier for me to embrace the season. Not that I need a reason when it comes to makeup. Really, really beautiful makeup like this, that is.
