Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Montréal première of the biopic, Yves Saint Laurent, a film directed by Jalil Lespert and starring Pierre Niney of the Comédie-Française as Yves Saint Laurent, with Guillaume Gallienne of the Comédie-Française as Pierre Bergé, the long-time lover & business partner of Yves Saint Laurent. The movie gives insight into the life of the designer, beginning with his quick rise through the fashion ranks (he was the youngest ever to hold the position of Director at the house of Dior when Christian Dior passed away) to his often troubled and turbulent relationships. At times poignantly touching, at others almost uncomfortably gritty, this is a film that all fashion and beauty lovers should put on their must-see list.
For my look, I decided to go with casual chic: a 60’s inspired baby-doll black dress with black lace strategic inserts from Free People and strappy black suede Prada heels (borrowed from my daughter – yay for wearing the same size). Continuing the theme, I carried a small & ladylike black Gucci handbag (made edgy by the red leather interior) and apart from my phone and business cards, the only other items I needed were a Lulu Guinness hand mirror – gifted to me by my dear friend, Adina Bodana of a-england lacquers (see my side panel for swatches of all her products), and my lipstick for touch ups, the new YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in #210 Nude Acoustic (LE) from the Fall 2014 Cuirs Fétiches Collection (review forthcoming).
The final touch to my ensemble, was a truly spectacular piece of jewelry, a Sapphô by Kim Smiley blackened bronze metallic lace cuff with Swarovski details and 18k plated magnetic closure (CAN $275.00), that was hand-made just for me by Canadian über-talent Kim Smiley (a detailed review on this piece will be coming soon). Not only was it the perfect accessory (and incredibly comfortable to wear), but made me so proud to be able to support this incredible woman.
With gorgeous displays of Yves Saint Laurent beauty products all around, a roped-off red-carpet for attending celebs (I apparently missed seeing them all, as I had already headed into the theatre), and bags of the tastiest popcorn to be had, the event was a huge. Once the movie was over, we were treated to a wonderful cocktail party (free-flowing champers and canapés) and left with fab little gift bags of YSL goodies.
