CHANEL – Le Vernis Rouge Fatal #487 Limited Edition Fall 2010

Although I love the look and thought of wearing red nail polish, rarely do I give in to the temptation for several reasons:

  • first of all, the red is never deep enough for my taste
  • I know that they require much more attention to detail to apply
  • lastly, removal is a major (and somewhat gruesome-looking) mess

Rouge Fatal changed my opinion upon first setting eyes on it!  This is one of those true siren-sexy reds…I believe a more appropriate term would be ‘man-catcher’, that just oozes sophistication, taste and old-world Hollywood glamour.  This Fall, CHANEL came out with a few mini collections (teasers to keep us happy until the holiday collections are released!) with some limited edition products — Rouge Fatal being one of them.

A deep wine,  creamy vampy red, this has a touch of brown in its base giving it a warmth that blue-based reds never achieve and can be easily worn on both warm and cool toned types.  Rouge Fatal is what people refer to when they say “blood-red” as it truly portrays that vibrancy.  Since there is no discernible shimmer in it whatsoever, it gives off  this intense depth.  Application was so smooth & even that it looked good at one coat but I applied two for full opacity and because it gave it a more finished appearance. When wearing red shades (or dark ones too for that matter), you should never skip base coat or risk staining your nail beds; I used Deborah Lippmann Rehydrating Base Coat here with 2 coats of Rouge Fatal. The glossy mirror-like finish of this dried shade almost doesn’t need a top coat, but I don’t like leaving my nails unsealed so I finished it off with Sèche Vite top coat. Removal was exceptionally easy for a red, leaving minimal mess behind and no staining (a definite plus!).

If you love red creamy shades, then this is one polish you don’t want to miss out on, especially since it is a limited edition colour.  It’s still available at all CHANEL counters, as well as chanel.com and in my opinion, the most mesmerizing red polish I have ever worn…a worthwhile investment for the admiring looks your nails will surely get!
