Trust François Nars to come up with something unconventional for his holiday collection….how much fun is that?! When I saw the first promotional pictures of the NARS Holiday 2010 Collection, my first thought was ‘resort’ rather than ‘holiday’, but I would wait to see the products with my own eyes before passing any judgement. This is truly an interesting collection and worth looking at….the entire range could easily transition to Spring, making it perhaps a wiser investment for your wallet!
I was expecting Pokerface to be rather flamboyant and over the top; after all, a colour named after a Lady Gaga hit had to be rather extravagant, no? Surprise! Pokerface is at once airy & delicate, edgy & unexpected. This is a pale lilac hue with a blueish undertone but there is also the addition of the finest blue, silver & pink micro-shimmer that shows up when light hits it at certain angles. On the NARS website it is described as a “vibrant lilac” but in my opinion it seems somewhat softer than that. It is more of a cool-toned shade but the variegated shimmer makes it easy for warmer-toned complexions to carry it off as well. The application was AMAZING!! It was almost self-levelling, leaving absolutely no brush strokes whatsoever. As with other NARS polishes, I found that Pokerface dried to an excellent glassy finish, giving it that almost ‘wet’ appearance and dry time was on the quick side as well. I used Deborah Lippmann Rehydrating Base Coat, three coats of polish (although 2 would have been perfect but for pictures I like to use three — in daily life I usually apply only two) and Sèche Vite top coat. NARS nail polishes retail for US $16.00/CAD $21.00 for o.5 fl.oz/15 ml

I have to confess that I will be picking up more pieces of this collection as they are truly too difficult to resist and the colours are just so unique. The other polish in this collection is named ‘Bad Influence’ and is described as a smoky taupe, although my initial opinion is that it seems very similar to CHANEL’s Particulière….guess I’ll have to buy it to compare so stay tuned!
