CHANEL Neapolis: New City Spring/Summer 2018 – Eyes

For Spring/Summer 2018, CHANEL introduces Neapolis: New City, a collection that is inspired by Lucia Pica’s city of birth, Naples. The name pays homage to this city’s roots as an ancient Greek colony, while the colours draw on the incredibly lush Mediterranean landscape. Starting things off, are this trio for the eyes to bring out your inner (and outer) goddess — flowing robes & crown not included.

Edition N°1 Affresco Les 9 Ombres, limited edition (CAN $98.00) | The most generously sized eyeshadow palette ever produced by the brand, the 9 shades here come in 3 different finishes (matte, satin, and high-shine) and in colours that range from earthen to vivid. Conveniently arranged in 3 ‘harmonies’ for effortless looks, you’re obviously free to experiment as well as mix & match. Housed in CHANEL’s iconic black lacquered packaging, the palette includes an oversized mirror on the inner lid — handy for on-the-go application, but it’s the formula and shade selection that has completely won me over. All nine hues have a creamy feel with strong colour saturation, effortless blendability and excellent staying power, when worn over primer.

824 Verderame Ombre Première (CAN $40.00) | As a long time fan of CHANEL’s Illusion d’Ombre, I confess that the upgraded Ombre Première formula is far superior to anything that came before — and by extension, so worth investing in. This newest shade is a smoky grey-green and apart from how velvety smooth it applies, it also has the benefit of looking drop-dead amazing on its own. TIP: try layering a light wash of Verderame (using your fingers to apply) under the green shades of Affresco for unbelievable depth of tone and intensity.

938 Mare-Chiaro Stylo Yeux Waterproof (CAN $35.00) | Hands down my favourite eye liners, this latest iteration is a stunning emerald green — and totally unique amongst all other green liners I have from this brand. The hallmarks that make the Stylo Yeux stand head and shoulders above the rest, are a smooth application (so critical when applying makeup to the sensitive skin around the eyes), as well as excellent longevity — even when worn along the water line.

With Christmas just a few short days away, I suggest squirrelling some cash away for this collection as it hits counters right after the New Year — and you’re going to want to indulge, believe me. The star piece is undoubtedly the Affresco palette and in all fairness, I find it to be very well priced considering the fact that it includes 9 well-sized shades. While you’re at it, you’ll want to try out both Verderame and Mare-Chiaro, but my gut tells me you won’t be able to leave without those in hand. #dontshootthemessenger
