Christian Louboutin Metalinudes Collection

Christian Louboutin Beauté recently launched the limited edition Metalinudes Collection, consisting of 3 lip gloss and 3 nail lacquer shades — all a playful yet sophisticated take on a classic nude theme. Of course, it doesn’t hurt the cause that this brand easily creates the most lust-worthy products available today … I mean, how can one possibly resist?

A personalized note — such a thoughtful touch

The luxury starts right from the heavy-gauge black lacquered cardboard box which opens up to reveal the jewel held within. Each Loubilaque comes housed in a clear acrylic casing that’s etched in a mermaid motif (I’m already a goner …) and bearing a golden crown cap. Another unique touch is the removable ribbon that they come with, giving one the option of wearing each Loubilaque as a pendant, if desired. Lightly fragranced (pleasantly so and not overpowering at all), they come with a softly bevelled doe-foot applicator that easily conforms to lips for an effortless application. The shades themselves may not be deep (nudes, remember?), they are nevertheless quite pigment-rich, providing full & even coverage from the first swipe while lasting surprisingly long [for nudes] as well.

Metallic nail lacquers are notoriously tricky animals, usually looking drop-dead amazing in the bottle but falling short of expectations in execution. Not so with these two beauties; prepare to be blown away. Housed in elegant python-printed cardboard boxes, each faceted heavy glass bottle is topped with the brand’s ‘stiletto’ cap — only this time in a pearlized finish created just for this collection. The brush is dense yet displays an excellent flexibility, splaying easily along the nail bed, while the formula rates as one of the absolute best as far as metallics go: strong opacity even by the first coat, self-levelling with no visible brush strokes at the finish, and a brilliant metallic shine. The swatches below are each with 2 coats of polish, no top coat.

Christian Louboutin definitely knows luxury, and as with his iconic red-soled shoes, no attention to detail has been overlooked with the Metalinudes Collection either. And yes, while packaging has been known to sway me, it’s the actual performance of each piece here that has left me completely impressed. Pricey? Absolutely, but you already know that going in (it’s Louboutin, after all) but here’s the thing: if metallic nudes are your sweet spot (guilty), these are so worth every.single.penny.
