MAC x Zac Posen | Haute Contour Powder Blush

MAC x Zac Posen Haute Contour opener

Created to help you achieve some of the beauty looks seen on the models from his runway collection, the Haute Couture Powder Blush from the recent MAC x Zac Posen collaboration is a duo that is simple and gorgeous to behold, while also being just so totally wearable (and affordable, in comparison to a real haute couture dress from the designer).

Haute Contour Powder Blush (CAN $34.00) | Housed in a square matte slate-grey compact case with a mirror on the inner lid and gold lettering on the cover, this dual-coloured face powder bears a larger tan portion on top (which can be used as either a bronzer, for contouring, or even as an eyeshadow crease shade) and a smaller peachy-pink section on the bottom that is meant to be used as a blusher (but which can also be applied to lids as well).

Unscented and dermatologist-tested, each shade of this Haute Couture duo is very finely milled and I experience very little powdery kickback when swirling my brushes across either surface, with the portions also large enough so that you can also pick up your desired shadewithout fear of cross-contamination (TIP: try combining the two for a unique new colour). The tan portion while not matte, is not shimmery either but holds a very soft sheen to provide some dimensionality when applied. The blush portion has a finely milled golden shimmer reminiscent of NARS’ Orgasm blush, but in a slightly more subtle version. Each shade is not overly-pigmented, but can be built up for more depth of colour – but I actually prefer this softer nature of both hues, as I find it makes them much more easier to use and work with. Suitable for a broad range of skin tones, with the probable exception of darker complexions; that being said, I suspect the tan portion could also be used as a setting powder in this case, while the blush can then double as a highlighter. Wear time over foundation is easily 9+ hours.

So how pretty is Haute Couture, am I right? And considering that I’m not usually a fan of face powder duos, I seem to have quite a few MAC versions (Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, to name but a few) but the one I’ve been reaching for of late, is definitely this little beauty. I absolutely love the shades against my skin tone and how I can apply either as a sheer wash of colour, or build them up for more impact. And then there’s the fact that it happens to be quite the versatile little combo as well – perfect for travelling or throwing in your makeup bag for a quick touch-up. The downside? Limited Edition and close to disappearing from counters already: you’ve been duly warned.

The MAC x Zac Posen Collection is still available at select MAC counters now, as well as The Bay across Canada. Find more information on the brand via www.maccosmetics.ca
