And while I usually ‘cocktail’ my mascaras (as in mixing various brands and/or formulas to achieve a specific result), sometimes there’s no point in messing with a good thing. Case in point: the Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara by YSL Beauté, a product that has basically achieved cult-fave status from devoted users, and validly so.

Completely reformulated, this pioneer in the ‘false-lash effect‘ type of mascara now has B5 Pro-Vitamin to strengthen and protect lashes, while the Triple-Intensity formula will provide intense colour, volume, and care – and all without drying out. Say goodbye to stiff crunchy lashes (unless you like that sort of thing) and hello to a gloriously lush eye fringe.

Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara (CAN $37.00) | Housed in the brand’s iconic signature gold packaging with a band bearing the Cassandre logo, the plush bristle brush has an excellent length & girth making it ideal to not only thoroughly coat each lash from the get-go, but also able to grab all the fine hairs you weren’t even aware were there – but this mascara will find them, trust me. This is a rich black shade, and while not the blackest I’ve come across, it’s still deep enough to provide plenty of definition to lashes. Even after applying 2 rich coats, my lashes continue to feel ‘mobile’ without experiencing any flaking or smudging throughout the wearing. Staying power is true until removed (using a dual-phase makeup remover), the product effortlessly coming off without the need for excessive force or tugging (and thus saving your precious lashes in the process).

Taking a classic and reinventing it can be risky, but that’s exactly what YSL Beauté has done with the Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara – and it’s definitely paid off. Offering definition and depth even at one coat, you can also take your lashes to a doll-like level … without caking on multiple layers either. Price-wise it may verge on the steep side, but still on par with other luxury brands, but the fact that it delivers may help take the sting out of that. Just saying.
