CHANEL Summer 2016 polishes opener

There are five new shades that will be released with CHANEL’s Dans La Lumière de l’Été Summer 2016 Collection, three of which I have to show you today. Drenched in summer-bright colours, these are all in the brand’s new formula that is enriched with ‘ceramides and bioceramics to provide nails with calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium for continuously reinforced nail health and an even longer lasting chip-free finish’, especially when paired with the new Le Gel Coat (previously reviewed here) which contains an oligomer that becomes activated by natural light, providing nails with a super-glossy finish. Let’s just dive right in, shall we?

CHANEL Canotier

532 Canotier, limited edition (CAN $32.00) | A gold-leaning pewter metallic with a good mix of both cool and warm undertones and that applies slightly sheer with the first coat, becoming fully opaque by a second layer. The pros: self levelling, comes to a brilliant finish, and is relatively quick drying. The cons: you definitely need to work quickly (again, due to how quickly it dries) and have a steady hand in application in order to minimize visible brush strokes, although some lines will smooth themselves out naturally as the polish sets. One thing to note is that you should avoid base coat underneath to ensure your polish lays down as smoothly as possible; for some reason, base coat appear to not mesh well with this formula. Very minor glitter spread seen upon removal.

Coats: 2, plus CHANEL Le Gel Coat

CHANEL Espadrilles

534 Espadrilles, limited edition (CAN $32.00) | A fiery red-orange hue in a crème/jelly hybrid formula that can be summed up in one word: SUPERB. With its excellent flow, density, opacity and coverage all of which is literally seen from the very first coat, you can also add a self-levelling application and über-glossy finish to that list of accomplishments. Bonus: non-staining upon removal (and by the way, will this not make THE most perfect pedi shade against a light tan?)

CHANEL Emeraude

536 Émeraude, limited edition (CAN $32.00) | Be still my beating heart: a rich emerald green hue (yellow-based undertone) that is also filled with CHANEL’s magical and ultra-fine shimmer in a bronze/gold shade to further add a unique complexity. The formula applies in a self-levelling way and comes to a brilliantly glossy finish, although there is some stringiness that may be seen with the first layer (similar to that of Sunset Trip, although nowhere near as tricky to work with) therefore do not overload your brush with too much polish. Becoming a few degrees darker in colour, completely opaque, and smoothing out with the second coat, this shade also has the added bonus of being totally non-staining upon removal.

The pictures speak for themselves, don’t they? I’ll break it down for you: Canotier, while not without its application challenges, is still a stunning metallic and will suit all skin tones across the board – but it most definitely is the trickster of the bunch. If you somehow have managed to avoid owning an orangey red up until now (or even if you have 15+ like I do), then you need look no further than Espadrilles for that perfect blazing hot Summer hue. The pièce de résistance, however, is none other than Émeraude, with its striking jewel-like reflection and definitely the shade you’ll be wanting once the collection launches. Another fact that makes it unique is that CHANEL rarely does bright green, and certainly none with the multi-tonal complexities of this beauty. While you don’t necessarily need the new Le Gel Coat to complete any of these shades, I suggest you invest in a bottle just the same as it really will make a difference in how these lacquers will wear. Plus it’ll look chic on your vanity (and yes, I can be shallow that way).

Anything here grab your eye? Let me know!

I don’t think those polishes are limited edition…

Here’s the thing; while on the website (both the US and Canadian) doesn’t list these polishes as limited edition, the press info I was sent does list them that way so I went with that. I would prefer that they stay permanent, as I love the shades!

My Emeraude is in the mail, on its way to me 🙂

What are your thoughts, beautiful?
