A couple of days ago I learned that 2 new glitter polishes which Deborah Lippmann had mentioned during late summer, had finally gone up for sale on her website…be still my beating heart! Of course, I made a beeline to my retailer to check them out in person. Nothing can compare to actually seeing these with your own eyes; there are levels and layers of glitter that can never be fully captured by the camera. Can I also take a moment here and mention the bottles? Deborah Lippmann nail polish bottles are so sculpturally beautiful, bringing to mind the bygone days of crystal flacons aligned on a lady’s vanity table, that it is almost a shame to hide them away. But on to the polishes, and as described on the Deborah Lippmann website:
- Today Was A Fairytale – silvery blue starlight (glitter) contains Virgin Diamond Powder
- Boom Boom Pow – glamorous gold gleam (glitter) contains 24K Gold Dust
I ended up only picking up Today Was A Fairytale, but I have a pretty strong feeling I will be heading back to get Boom Boom Pow as I haven’t been able to get the intense ‘gold-ness’ of it out of my mind (obsessed, much?!). Today Was A Fairytale is a sheer greyed out baby blue base, with shimmer, glimmer and larger chunkier glitter. I’m assuming the Virgin Diamond Powder added in is what gives this polish its insane shine, but as with her other glitter polishes, you can adjust the level of glitter by how many coats you apply. It has more of a ‘cool’ look to it compared to Boom Boom Pow’s ‘warm’ tone and I imagine it will look just as spectacular layered over another colour, as it does on its own. What sets this shade apart from other silver-toned polishes which have recently been launched, is the baby blue base, giving it an ethereal iciness. As mentioned in my previous review of Lippmann polishes, the glitter makes this polish more challenging to remove but being a little patient pays off. I will be swatching/wearing it tomorrow and will post the pics then. For now, enjoy!
